Attributes
Mohenjo-daro was built around 2500 BCE and was one of the largest cities of the Indus Valley Civilization, alongside Harappa. The city was mysteriously abandoned around 1900 BCE, and the exact reason for its decline remains unknown.
The site was rediscovered in 1922 by archaeologist R. D. Banerji during British rule in India. Excavations revealed advanced urban features such as grid-pattern streets, standardized bricks, public baths, and an efficient drainage system — all far ahead of their time.
Unlike other ancient civilizations, no evidence of large palaces or temples was found, suggesting a society focused on community planning and equality.
